Moles

Moles, also called Nevi, are benign overgrowths of the cells that usually are brown or black and may appear anywhere on the body. Moles may darken after exposure to sun, during pregnancy or during the teen years. If your moles do not change over time, there is little reason for concern. The moles that are of medical concern are existing moles which show signs of changing in color, height, size or shape or for moles that first appear after age 20. Moles should be evaluated if bleeding, oozing, itching, tenderness or pain should appear by consulting with your dermatologist.

Treatment Options:

Moles may be removed entirely or a small tissue sample of the mole will be taken for further testing by performing a simple procedure and testing the tissue under a microscope.
