Molloscum
Molluscum Contagiosum is a common viral infection (poxvirus) of the skin that causes small flesh-colored bumps that are painless. The virus is not harmful, however it can be easily spread among children through skin-to-skin contact. As the name implies, molluscum contagiosum is contagious. Most often appear on the trunk, face, arms and genital area with potentially a rash that is red, scaly, dry or itchy around the bumps.
Treatment Options:
If left untreated, molluscum will eventually go away over time. Prescription medications containing, retinoids and aldara can help. Often molluscum is treated in-office by applying medicated chemicals, freezing or scraping. This results in blisters and sores that need to be soothed with topical or oral medications. If there are many growths, treatment sessions may be needed every 3 to 6 weeks until the growths disappear.
