Latisseā„¢ has been FDA approved for the treatment of small or thin eyelash growth when applied regularly on a daily basis. Latisse was successful in clinical trials, with 78% of participants experiencing significant lash growth, thickening and darkening. Latisse works by prolonging the growth phase of the hair cycle of the eyelashes which is usually 1 to 2 months. Latisse is a prescription product which you apply at home. Results appear as early as 4 to 8 weeks and maximal at 16 weeks.

If discontinued for 4 to 6 weeks you can expect your lashes to return to their pretreatment appearance. Maintenance treatments may be initiated after the continual 16 week regimen by applying the product every 2 to 3 days.

Procedure:

Prior to applying the product, wash your face and remove any makeup. Contacts should be removed. Using the special applicator, place a drop of the solution on the applicator and apply it to the base of the upper eyelid where the lash base meets the skin of the eyelid. Excess solution should be blotted off with a dry tissue. A fresh applicator should be used for each eyelid and never reused.

Side effects:

Some patients have experienced temporary itching or slight redness after application however generally resolves when the body becomes accustomed to the product. Rarely, there can be pigment changes of the colored part of the eye. This is rare and is only an issue in people with lighter colored eyes. Also, anyone who is being treated for other eye diseases such as glaucoma should consult with their eye physician prior to using this product.
