IPL Photofacial Laser
Dr. Javier Zelaya uses the M22 IPL, made by Lumenis. IPL treats a wide variety of skin conditions: sun damage, flushing, skin texture, redness, broken capillaries, brown spots, age spots, freckles, improves fine wrinkles and large pores.
This non-laser treatment uses the energy of Intense Pulsed Light, often referred to as “PhotoFacial” to combat the effects of aging with a gentle approach. The wavelengths used in Intense Pulsed Light or IPL treatments specifically target the pigment melanin or brown spots and the hemoglobin blood or “red” of broken capillaries or blood vessels. The intensity and pulsed delivery of the energy from these selected light wavelengths, also stimulate the deeper layers of the skin and increase collagen production. The process can reach different layers and depths of the skin, without damaging the surface. The result is decreased red and brown “blotches”, improved texture and a more polished, luminous and youthful complexion.
What is the Procedure Like?
A cold gel is first applied to the skin. The skin is cooled and a hand-held instrument which transmits broad spectrum light into the tissues is placed gently on the skin. The treatment is not painful but if you are sensitive, a topical anesthetic can be used to numb the skin.
Sessions take approximately 30 minutes per area treated and require no anesthetic. Mild redness and a “hot” feeling is common immediately after treatment but is easily relieved with cool compresses and moisturizers. There is minimal downtime. You can wear makeup right away to cover up any skin irritation and must use sunblock. One of the reasons that IPL has become popular is because it is extremely safe with very few incidents of side effects.
The benefits of Intense Pulsed Light develop gradually over the following 2 to 3 weeks and best results are achieved with a series of 3 to 5 treatments. Contact us to learn more about IPL.
