What is Juvederm?
JUVÉDERM® Inject able Gel is a smooth consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid—a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration. JUVÉDERM® is injected under the skin to instantly restore your skin’s volume and smooth away facial wrinkles, lines, and folds. JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that is proven to be safe and effective for persons of color. Because it is not made from any animal by-products, there is no allergy risk and few chances of side effects. Like Restylane, Juvederm is versatile and can be used for various indications including:

How does Juvederm Work?
JUVÉDERM® is made from hyaluronic acid—a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to hydrate and add volume. Hyaluronic acid may diminish with age, contributing to the formation of wrinkles and folds. JUVÉDERM® works to correct this by restoring hyaluronic acid in your skin, helping to smooth wrinkles and folds .JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel has a unique manufacturing process that provides a high concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid for long-lasting results. It also creates a smooth consistency gel that flows easily into the skin during the injection process and provides a smooth, natural look and feel. JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel is injected under the skin using a fine needle to augment, or fill, the soft tissue of the dermis—the dense inner layer of skin beneath the epidermis—to add volume and diminish wrinkles and folds
Does it hurt?
Topical, local, or regional anesthesia is usually recommended to minimize discomfort during treatment. Topical anesthesia may be done with topical EMLA 1 hour prior or LMX .5 hours prior to the procedure. Newer formulations of these fillers already have premixed lidocaine within them, leading to more tolerable injection procedure.
Is it safe?
Following the injection, the treated areas are gently massaged. . The procedure is quick and easy. The injection itself usually takes only about 15 minutes. Because RESTYLANE® & JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel is a simple, nonsurgical wrinkle treatment; there is minimal recovery or downtime. After the treatment, some temporary injection-related reactions may occur, including redness, bruising, pain, firmness, swelling, and bumps. With lip enhancement, it is wise to choose your treatment time with care since your lips may become swollen and appear slightly uneven for one to two days. We recommend whenever possible avoiding any medications that can prolong bleeding; such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAIDs), St John’s wort or high doses of Vitamin E supplements for at least a week prior to treatment in order to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site. For the first 24 hours following treatment, you should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and consumption of alcoholic beverages in order to help minimize the risks of temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the treatment sites Treatment with injectable fillers ( i.e. Restylane, Juvederm, Collagen etc) near sites of recurrent cold sore (for example , lips) can cause another outbreak
What to expect
You should see an immediate improvement in the treatment areas. Most patients need one treatment to achieve optimal results, which can last unto one year. However, results may vary and correction is temporary. Supplemental “touch up” treatments may be required to achieve and maintain optimal results.
