Keratosis Pilaris

Keratosis Pilaris

Keratosis Pilaris (KP) is a common, harmless skin disorder. Old skin cells in the hair follicles form a scaly plug creating rough bumps on the skin surface. These bumps do not itch or hurt and often worsen when skin becomes dry during winter months. Keratosis pilaris typically occurs on the backs of the arms in people with a personal or family history of atopic dermatitis (eczema), allergies (including hay fever), and asthma. It can also appear on the thighs, cheeks, back  and buttocks. Sometimes the bumps of keratosis pilaris can become irritated, red and inflamed.
